WHAT IS HOBY? HOBY programs are conducted annually throughout the United States and world, serving both local and international high school students.
HOBY provides students, most of whom are selected by their schools, to participate in unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building experiences, beginning a lifelong dedication to improving the lives of others.
STATE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of HOBY’s 70 State Leadership Seminars to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community. The seminar curriculum is based on the Social Change Model of Leadership and develops leadership from three perspectives: Personal Leadership, Group Leadership, and Leadership for Society. The 3-4 day seminar weekend is filled with interactive workshops and activities that allow students to discover their dynamic leadership strengths.
STATE SCHOLARSHIP FUND Across the U.S. there are students and families that cannot afford to attend a State Leadership Seminar and depend on their school or community to sponsor their registration fee. The State Scholarship Fund helps local seminar sites fund deserving students' leadership opportunities who otherwise would not be able to participate. By sponsoring a student, you will make a significant impact on their life and all whose they affect with their HOBY experience.

WORLD LEADERSHIP CONGRESS WLC brings together over 400 students from across the United States and around the world for a week of inspiration, discovery and fun. Students from countries like Turkey, Iraq, Israel, India, Ecuador, China, Rwanda, Cambodia and Pakistan leave equipped with the tools and support needed to reach their goals and be active global citizens.
In addition, HOBY programs are empowering young people to be a positive force in their communities in Canada, South Korea and the United Kingdom. Recently students in Africa have also had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills after pilot programs in Togo and Uganda were launched.
GLOBAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND In countries around the world there are students who would benefit from the experience at HOBY’s World Leadership Congress but cannot afford the registration or travel expenses. Attending the WLC not only benefits the foreign student, but is also an exchange of cultures that builds respect and appreciation in our U.S. students, too. The Global Scholarship Fund helps support students from countries around the globe.
